Azerbaijan's Delegation Will Not Attend the Eurasian Parliamentary Assembly in Yerevan

The Azerbaijani Milli Majlis delegation will not participate in the 12th plenary session of the Eurasian Parliamentary Assembly, which will take place in Yerevan from October 28 to 30. This was announced by the head of the delegation, Tahir Mirkişili, highlighting that the decision is based not on the venue of the meeting, but rather on recent documents and statements by the European Parliament.

Baku justified its decision by citing 'anti-Azerbaijani' statements from the European Parliament and a lack of trust. According to Mirkişili, several statements made by the European Parliament contradict Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity. 'Such approaches do not contribute to the peace process, but rather support those forces that are interested in maintaining the confrontation,' he noted.

The Azerbaijani parliament, as reported by Mirkişili, has expressed dissatisfaction with the European Parliament's positions several times, and statements made after peace negotiations in Washington, characterized as 'unconstructive,' have ultimately undermined Baku's trust in the 'Eurasian' initiative.

He added that the decision is in no way related to the fact that the meeting is being held in Yerevan. 'Today, peace is established between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and both sides are taking practical steps toward normalizing relations,' said Mirkişili.
