Knesset Speakers Will Push for Next Year's Nobel Peace Prize to be Awarded to Trump
The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, announced today that he and the Speaker of the Israeli Knesset, Amir Ohana, will advocate for President Donald Trump to receive the Nobel Peace Prize next year, as reported by NBC News.
“I am proud to announce that together with my friend, the Speaker of the Israeli Knesset, Ohana, who is our equivalent in Congress, we are launching a joint initiative to unite speakers of parliaments and presidents from different countries to jointly nominate President Donald J. Trump for next year’s Nobel Peace Prize,” Johnson stated at a press conference held at the Capitol.
Last week, in the lead-up to the announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize, Trump’s allies repeatedly asserted that he should receive the award. During the press conference, Johnson and other Republican leaders in the House reiterated their remarks about the government shutdown, blaming Democrats and demanding that healthcare issues be discussed within the framework of a short-term spending bill. The House of Representatives will not be meeting this week.
