Foreign Troops Deployed in Ukraine Will Become Targets for Russia, Putin Says
Ukraine demands communication with the Russian Federation; I am ready for those communications, but I see no sense in it, as it will be impossible to reach an agreement. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, as reported by TASS.
According to him, if any foreign troops appear in Ukraine, they will become legitimate targets for the Russian armed forces, and if long-term peace agreements are signed, there will be no need for foreign troops.
“Until now, no one has seriously discussed security guarantees with Russia. They must exist for both the Russian Federation and Ukraine. Russia will fully uphold the peace agreements regarding Ukraine once they are signed. If anyone from Ukraine genuinely wants to meet, we are ready,” Putin emphasized.
Putin noted that Kyiv recently excluded the possibility of communication with Russia, and is now requesting that such communications take place. He stated that Ukraine's participation in NATO directly concerns Russia's security interests.
“According to Ukraine's constitution, agreements regarding territories must be sanctioned by a referendum, but for that to happen, the state of martial law must be lifted. Russia has never objected to Ukraine's Euro-integration initiatives,” the Russian president added.
