WP Analyzes Trump's Chances of Winning the Nobel Peace Prize
The prospects of U.S. President Donald Trump winning the Nobel Peace Prize remain unclear, as three of the five committee members have previously criticized him publicly, according to the Washington Post. It is noted that the other two members do not have clear track records of criticizing Trump. One of them, scholar Asle Toje, has previously spoken favorably about Trump’s legal troubles under former President Joe Biden's administration.
According to the publication, Trump is almost certainly not going to receive this year’s prize, which will be awarded in October, as the nomination deadline expired in January. However, the prospects for 2026 remain uncertain.
In February, Trump declared that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. Earlier, South Korea’s “Chosun Ilbo” reported that Park Sung-won, the vice-chairman of the Republic of Korea’s parliamentary intelligence committee, nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Prior to that, East Timor's President Jose Ramos-Horta announced he was ready to nominate Trump for the peace prize if his efforts lead to a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis and the conflict in Gaza.
