Partial Restrictions on Calls via Telegram and WhatsApp in Russia
The Russian communications watchdog, Roskomnadzor, has officially announced the partial restriction of calls on Telegram and WhatsApp.
Due to numerous requests from law enforcement agencies and citizens, it has been determined that foreign messengers like Telegram and WhatsApp have become the primary voice services used for extorting money and involving Russian citizens in subversive and terrorist activities.
To counteract criminals, measures are being taken to partially limit calls on these foreign messengers. No other functionality restrictions will be imposed on them, according to the announcement.
