At First Glance, It Might Seem Like a Minor Issue: Kostanyan on 30 km Irrigation Pipeline
The spokesperson for the Mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Kostanyan, has announced that around 30 km of irrigation pipeline will be constructed in Yerevan throughout 2024.
“At first glance, it might seem like a minor issue, but both before 2018 and afterwards, certain areas have been planted with trees without any irrigation. In many cases, you can witness that there are no trees,” Kostanyan stated.
He also discussed the process of tree replacement in the capital. “There is a consensus among a wide range of specialists that trees near the end of their lifespan, which are no longer performing their functions, should be replaced,” he said.
According to him, not only in Yerevan but also in the regions, trees have been planted without the regulation of irrigation system networks, resulting in these trees simply drying out. “Last year, around 5,000 different species of trees were planted. In the once beautiful parks of Norq, we carried out tree planting in a very complex terrain, and in those challenging conditions, we also installed an irrigation system to avoid any future problems,” he concluded.
