Zelensky Says Under What Conditions He Would Resign
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that he is ready to resign if Ukraine becomes a NATO member and the war ends. In that case, he would consider his mission accomplished.
“As for my departure from office, it won't be easy to replace me. This means that just holding elections is not enough; one should also ensure that I leave. In other words, it's a bit more complicated. It turns out that there needs to be an agreement with me. And I said that if I transition to NATO, it means I have fulfilled my task; if NATO exists and the war is over, then I have accomplished my mission,” said Zelensky.
He also spoke about pressures from international partners who may try to influence Ukraine's decisions. The president criticized such approaches, adding that they contradict democratic principles. “It seems that people are telling Ukrainians what kind of president they should have, especially if those people hold office. This, honestly, does not appear to be constructive or democratic. Perhaps this is a solution for everyone—Putin and everyone else—if I'm not as flexible as they say. Well, yes, I am transitioning to NATO, I’m being honest,” the state leader summarized.
