How Much Money Armenia Received from USAID
In 2024, Armenia received $110 million from the total $250 million allocation of the USAID grant agreement, which was intended within the framework of development cooperation with the United States. This was stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia in response to a written inquiry from Sputnik Armenia.
The agreement, signed in September 2024 between Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and John Albat, the head of the USAID mission in Armenia, introduced changes to the grant agreement aimed at developing cooperation between Armenia and the United States.
As a result, the funding threshold under the USAID agreement nearly doubled, increasing from $120 million to $250 million, and the directions of joint programs were expanded.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that all programs of external assistance financed by the Department of State and USAID are currently frozen, and the ministry does not have any projects to be implemented in cooperation with the agency.
“As of 2024, out of the allocated $250 million, $110 million has been distributed, of which approximately $49 million has been directed towards 'Promoting Democratic Transition,'” the MFA clarified to the media.
Within this initiative, five programs have been implemented: rule of law and human rights ($6.6 million), good governance (approximately $18.9 million), fostering political competition and consensus building (approximately $8 million), civil society and media ($13.6 million), and humanitarian assistance ($1 million).
About $60 million has been allocated among the programs under the framework of 'Improving Economic Security.' Accordingly, around $29.8 million has been allocated for increasing productivity in the private sector, approximately $3.2 million for workforce development, around $25.8 million for energy services, and $1 million for humanitarian assistance.
