Participation in BRICS Summit is Essential for Armenia, Says Pashinyan
Participating in the BRICS summit is crucial for Armenia, as its agenda is directly related to our country. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a Q&A session in the National Assembly.
Pashinyan emphasized that it was important for him to have received the invitation personally from Russian President Vladimir Putin and to accept it. “I believe that being there is important for Armenia, especially since the current BRICS summit pertains to the Global South, which is directly related to Armenia,” he stated.
The Prime Minister also views Armenia's participation in the summit as a significant opportunity to present the “Peace Junction.” According to him, interest in the “Peace Junction” is growing within the international community.
Pashinyan recalled that he had previously participated in the UN General Assembly meeting, the Francophonie summit, and various formats of participation by the Armenian authorities allow for better navigation in the modern world.
Tomorrow, on October 24, the Prime Minister will depart for Kazan to participate in the work of the BRICS summit. The BRICS summit with the participation of state leaders is being held in Kazan from October 22-24. Starting January 1, 2024, Russia will hold the presidency of the organization under the motto of strengthening multilateralism for just global development and security.
BRICS is an intergovernmental union established in 2006 by Russia, China, India, and Brazil, with South Africa joining the framework in 2011. Beginning in early 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia will also join BRICS.
