Turkey Discusses Possible Start of Russia-Ukraine Peace Negotiations
The Ukrainian people are preparing for a referendum and peace negotiations with Russia, which are likely to begin in mid-December, Turkish analyst Engin Ozer told RIA Novosti.
"During the conflict, there has never been a process where peace was this close following the Istanbul talks. Although Zelensky has prohibited calling them peace negotiations, he has stated that Russia could be invited to a peace conference, which is a very important step. Another significant statement made by Zelensky is that important decisions about the war should be made by the people," the agency's interlocutor said.
According to him, the positions of the parties regarding the peace negotiations are still very far apart. "It seems that the process has emerged after the possibility of Donald Trump's victory in the American elections came to light. The Kyiv administration is confident that if such a scenario occurs, military assistance will decrease. For this reason, both sides are trying to strengthen their positions in the conflict zone," Ozer said.
