Armenia Remains Committed to Democracy Despite Challenges, Says Ararat Mirzoyan
Despite all challenges, Armenia remains committed to the promise of sustainable development goals and to bringing about real changes for its people by building strong democratic institutions. This was declared by Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan at the high-level political forum on sustainable development at the UN in New York. The information was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.
“While we were trying to overcome the global pandemic like many other countries, at the same time, a large-scale war, aggression against Armenia, and the influx of around 115,000 Armenians due to the blockade and ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh put our efforts to implement the sustainable development goals seriously at risk. However, regardless of all the challenges, Armenia remained committed to the promise of sustainable development goals,” he stated.
In his speech, the Foreign Minister also noted that Armenia continues to uphold human rights and the rule of law, promoting social inclusion, gender equality, and enhancing opportunities for youth. According to Mirzoyan, the individual plays a central role in the government’s efforts to implement the 2030 agenda.
It is worth reminding that Mirzoyan traveled to the United States yesterday, on July 15. He was also in the U.S. on July 10. In Washington, Mirzoyan participated in a trilateral meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during which the U.S. Secretary of State stated that Armenia and Azerbaijan are very close to reaching a final agreement on peace.
