France Will Continue to Support Ukraine, Macron
Emmanuel Macron, during an interview with reporters at the NATO summit in Washington, stated: “Important decisions have been made here in Washington to ensure our long-term support and to make progress toward Ukraine’s NATO membership.”
Commenting on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's visits to Ukraine, Russia, and China, Macron said that Orbán can make such trips, but not on behalf of the European Union.
The French leader also mentioned that U.S. President Joe Biden is aware of all the matters at the NATO summit. “Yesterday, during lunch, I had the opportunity to speak at length with President Biden. As always, I saw a president who is in control of the situation and clearly understands the issues he is well aware of,” Macron's words were quoted by AFP.
Reporters also asked Macron to comment on Biden's verbal slip when he accidentally referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “President Putin.” “We all make mistakes sometimes,” Macron said. “It happened to me, and it can happen again tomorrow. I would ask for your understanding.”
