Iran Attempts to Incite Protests in the U.S., Says U.S. Intelligence Chief
U.S. officials are publicly warning that Iran is actively working to escalate protests in the United States related to the American administration's support for Israel in the Palestine conflict, reports CNN.
"These protests have created significant divisions within the country, making them a suitable target for foreign players like Iran, who are interested in amplifying discord within the U.S.," the report states.
In a statement, Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines mentioned, "Americans who have become targets of this Iranian campaign may not realize that they are collaborating with a foreign government or receiving support from it." She urged all Americans to remain vigilant as they interact online with accounts and issues that they do not personally recognize.
At the same time, Haines acknowledged that intelligence data indicates Americans participating in the protests are genuinely expressing their views on the Gaza conflict, which Iran is trying to leverage.
The network recalls that the Gaza conflict has sparked protests across the United States, particularly in student communities, in response to the rising number of casualties among civilians.
