Paris Prosecutor's Office Launches Investigation Against Marine Le Pen
The Paris Prosecutor's Office has initiated an investigation against Marine Le Pen, the leader of the National Rally party, regarding suspicions of violating campaign financing rules during the 2022 electoral campaign. This was reported by BFMTV, citing its sources.
According to the television channel, 'The judicial investigation into suspicions of illegal financing of Le Pen's campaign during the 2022 presidential elections has recently begun.' The trigger for this investigation was a report from the National Commission for Campaign Accounts and Political Financing (CNCCFP), which examines the legality of reimbursements for candidates' expenses during elections.
The commission has reported violations to the prosecutor’s office and has presented applications concerning several candidates in the presidential elections. It also issued a warning regarding Le Pen's campaign related to exceeding spending limits during the 2022 presidential elections.
In the recent parliamentary elections in France, the New Popular Front (NFP) coalition of left-wing parties was declared the winner, securing 182 seats. The second place (168 seats) was taken by President Emmanuel Macron's 'Together' coalition, while Le Pen's National Rally will be represented by 143 lawmakers in the National Assembly.
