Attempted Coup Prevented in Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan's intelligence services have thwarted an attempt to seize power by force, the country's National Security State Committee's press service reports.
"The illegal activities of a destructive group, which had developed plans to carry out a violent seizure of power and destabilize the socio-political situation in the country, have been suspended. They intended to achieve their goals by organizing mass riots, which were expected to result in civilian casualties," the statement said.
The agency indicated that the group consisted of supporters of criminal ideologies and religious extremists.
Security forces have detained four citizens of Kyrgyzstan, who are currently in an investigative detention center. The homes and vehicles of the suspects have been searched, revealing components for homemade explosives, weapons, ammunition, bulletproof vests, uniforms, drones, extremist literature, and other prohibited items.
