Police Installing Listening Devices in Vehicles and Phones of Movement Members
Members and supporters of the "Tavush for the Homeland" movement have had their vehicles in the possession of law enforcement for about a month. When asked why they are being held, the response is, "We are checking them." However, sources within the law enforcement system have indicated that these vehicles are not just being checked; rather, listening devices are being installed in them, according to the newspaper "Hraparak."
After several days of "checking," they call the vehicle owners back and return the cars, now equipped with constant "companions." But these unlawful actions do not stop there. The eavesdropping information ends up in pro-government media outlets. Garnik Danielyan, a member of the "Armenia" faction and the "Tavush for the Homeland" movement, stated that he is aware of these actions — not only are there "bugs" installed in the vehicles, but also in the phones.
“Supporters and active members of the movement have been detained, and their phones confiscated for several hours, sometimes days, during which law enforcement would install listening devices. Similarly, they have placed devices in vehicles when they took the citizen’s car to the impound lot without any legal grounds,” he explained.
Lawyer Ruben Melikyan corroborated this information, noting instances where listening devices have been installed in the vehicles of movement members. “There have been numerous cases where police unlawfully seized citizens' vehicles without justification, most frequently targeting those vehicles that had not passed technical inspection, while in fact, a simple fine would suffice for this,” he said.
Our source in law enforcement advises citizens to check their vehicles and phones when retrieving them from the police or investigative agencies.
