UN Human Rights High Commissioner on Armenian Prisoners Illegally Held in Azerbaijan
Member of the Armenian delegation to the PACE, Armen Gevorgyan, has addressed UN Human Rights High Commissioner Volker Turk, pointing out that one of the main obstacles to a fair and mutually acceptable resolution between Armenia and Azerbaijan is the issue of Armenian prisoners and captives illegally held in Azerbaijan, including the return of Nagorno-Karabakh leaders.
Armen Gevorgyan inquired about the UN Human Rights Commissioner's approach regarding this issue. “It is evident that last year we were all concerned about the expulsion of Armenians from the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. We have initiated several missions, particularly in Armenia, to gather more information about what happened to them. We are in dialogue with both Azerbaijan and Armenia to find solutions. Of course, there is a right to return, and there is a right to respect and protect property. It is truly important that the peace process remains ongoing,” said Turk.
