The MP Who Appointed Her Husband as an Assistant Receives 100,000 AMD Monthly from the National Assembly for Rent
According to the newspaper ‘Hraparak’, yesterday, MP Emma Palyan from the ruling Civil Contract party explained to the press why she appointed her husband as an assistant, stating that he works on a voluntary basis, meaning without a salary. She appointed him because they live in Gyumri, and her husband drives her to and from work. The assistant status allows him to enter the National Assembly premises and wait for her in her office.
However, we learned from the National Assembly that Emma Palyan receives a monthly payment of 100,000 AMD, which is available to regional MPs for renting an apartment in Yerevan. This means that Palyan's husband has no need to transport her from Gyumri, as they should be residing in Yerevan. This also suggests that MPs may not fully understand why the law provides for assistant positions.
