Military Takeover in Niger Decides to Open Airspace

Niger's military leadership has decided to open the airspace from September 4.

This was reported by Interfax, citing French-language media sources. The coup leaders had closed Niger's airspace for flights on August 6, justifying their decision by the threat of invasion from neighboring countries.

On July 26, it became known that some members of the Niger presidential guard had revolted against the country's leader, Mohammed Bazoum, who was deposed from power. The General Staff of the Niger Armed Forces supported the organizers of the rebellion.

The new leader of the country has been announced as Army General Abdourahamane Tchiani. ECOWAS, the European Union, France, and several other countries have condemned the military coup, demanding the release of Bazoum and the restoration of his former position.
