Igor Strelkov-Girkin Expresses Desire to Participate in Upcoming Russian Presidential Elections
Igor Girkin (Strelkov), who is currently in investigative detention on charges of extremism, has expressed his intention to run for the presidency of Russia. A post appeared on his social media where he compares himself to the country's current leader, Vladimir Putin. According to Strelkov, he is not as "credulous" and "benevolent," does not have billionaire friends, and is not burdened with promises.
It is worth recalling that Girkin, a nationalist, was arrested in July in Moscow after publicly criticizing President Vladimir Putin for the ineffective conduct of the 'special military operation' in Ukraine and failing to achieve its objectives. He has been charged with making extremist calls. Currently, Girkin is in custody at a penal institution.
Presidential elections in Russia are scheduled to take place in 2024.
