Abkhazian Railway Will Only Resume Operations If Georgia Reunites, Says Garibashvili

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, has ruled out the resumption of the Abkhazian railway during his speech in parliament, refuting opposition claims that Moscow and Tbilisi are conducting secret negotiations on the matter.

“The claims about supposed secret negotiations regarding the resumption of the Abkhazian railway are misleading the public. I state with full responsibility that there are no negotiations on this issue,” Garibashvili asserted while addressing the lawmakers.

According to Garibashvili, the question of when the Abkhazian railway will be reopened has only one answer: “In the case of Georgia's reunification.”

It is worth noting that discussions about the potential resumption of the railway passing through Abkhazia have intensified following statements made this week by Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry. In her remarks, she claimed that “Russia is making efforts to implement the extensive roadmap available on this issue.”
