Russian Official Acknowledges Sensitivity of Turkish Consulate Opening in Shushi for Armenia
Russia understands the sensitivity of the possible opening of a Turkish consulate in Shushi for Armenia. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a press briefing.
It is worth noting that earlier, during his visit to Azerbaijan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the readiness to open a consulate in Shushi.
According to Zakharova, the issue of opening a consulate anywhere, particularly in Shushi, remains a topic concerning bilateral relations—in this case, between Baku and Ankara.
“At the same time, we understand the sensitivity of the issue for Yerevan. In our communications, we emphasize the necessity of considering each other's interests and the importance of the processes of normalizing relations both between Armenia and Azerbaijan and between Armenia and Turkey,” she stated.
It should be reminded that Shushi came under Azerbaijani control as a result of the 44-day war in 2020.
