"Prospects for Normalization with Armenia Have Emerged" - Bayramov
Prospects for the normalization of relations with Armenia are taking shape based on the principles of "mutual sovereignty, territorial integrity, and inviolability of borders," Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated today during the Caspian Connection conference in London.
According to him, there are also serious prospects for the reactivation of communication routes in the region; however, Armenia "is causing difficulties on this issue." After the latest trilateral meeting of deputy prime ministers, official Yerevan announced that, in the event of unblocking, border services in Armenian territory should be undertaken by Armenia. Meanwhile, Baku insists that Russian border guards will monitor the route within Armenian territory.
Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan has sent a meeting proposal to his Azerbaijani counterpart Shahin Mustafayev. According to the deputy prime minister's office, the purpose of the proposal is to discuss current problematic issues that are causing tension along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. However, it remains unclear where and in what format Grigoryan suggested the meeting take place.
Grigoryan and Mustafayev are co-chairs of the trilateral working group established to unblock regional communication routes, with Russian co-chair Alexey Overchuk. He stated today that a comprehensive document has been developed as a result of the meeting held in the format of the working group, confirming that the unblocking of transport connections in the region will begin with the restoration of the railway route via Yerevan-Julfa-Meghri-Horadiz.
