VIDEO. "Gather Your Candidate". Tensions Rise During Extraordinary Session

The Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs of the National Assembly is discussing the issue of nominating the Human Rights Defender (HRD) during an extraordinary session.

During the discussion, tensions escalated after opposition HRD candidate Edgar Ghazaryan addressed Gevorg Papoyan using the informal "you," saying, "You finished your speech."

"I warn you, as the head of the committee, to ensure the normal conduct of the session. If your nominated candidate allows himself to make comments after or during our deputies' speeches again, you will bear full responsibility, Ms. Tovmasyan, for obstructing the normal functioning of the session," stated the secretary of the ruling Civil Contract faction.

"Do not speak to me with threats," responded Taguhi Tovmasyan.

It should be noted that the Civil Contract has nominated Deputy Prosecutor General Anahit Manasyan for the HRD position, while the “Bright Armenia” and “I Have Honor” factions nominated Edgar Ghazaryan.
