A Unique Moment: Lukashenko Calls for an End to the Conflict in Ukraine
The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, considers the current moment to be favorable for ending the conflict in Ukraine.
“There is a unique situation now (I see it and feel it intuitively), when it is possible to put an end to this conflict. There may not be another moment like this,” Lukashenko said in an interview with the Chinese state news agency BelTA.
“And Russia is ready today to take steps towards a peaceful resolution,” added the Belarusian president. He noted that Moscow initially sought peace by conducting two rounds of negotiations in Belarus.
“Then they (the participants of the negotiations) went to Istanbul, and afterwards, they completely refused, even though there was a resolution plan on the table. I believe that the West and the Americans urged Kyiv not to engage in negotiations. Russia has offered talks from the very first days. We have been part of this process from the beginning, organizing and witnessing it,” Lukashenko added.
