Iran's Spiritual Leader Announces Amnesty
An amnesty has been declared in Iran. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has granted amnesty to tens of thousands of prisoners, including those arrested during the recent protests in the country.
This was reported by IRNA.
"The head of the judicial authority proposed granting amnesty or reducing the sentences of tens of thousands of defendants who were arrested during recent events. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has agreed," the report stated.
According to agency information, the decision regarding the amnesty was made in connection with the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. It is noted that the amnesty does not extend to individuals who have engaged in espionage for foreign entities, have direct connections with agents of foreign intelligence services, committed murder and premeditated crimes, or have destroyed and set fire to public, military, and societal objects.
