6 Individuals, Including 2 Young Children, Die in Accident on Sevan-Martuni-Getap Highway; Criminal Proceedings Initiated

On January 7, 2023, at around 16:10, a collision occurred on the 62.5th kilometer of the Sevan-Martuni-Getap highway between a "VAZ 21703" vehicle driven by a resident of the Lichq community in the Martuni enlarged community and an "Opel" vehicle driven by a resident of the Vardenik community within the same municipality. The resulting fire claimed the lives of the two drivers and all passengers, totaling six individuals, including two young children.

According to Gohar Abrahamyan, the spokesperson for the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia, criminal proceedings have been initiated in the Martuni investigative department of the Gegharkunik regional investigative administration based on the third part of Article 342 of the RA Criminal Code. This article addresses violations related to ensuring traffic safety requirements or safety rules governing road traffic or the operation of vehicles, which negligently caused the death of two or more people.

An investigation has been launched.
