Benzema Officially Announces Retirement from France National Team
Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema has officially announced his retirement from the France national team. The 35-year-old player shared the news on his social media accounts.
It is worth noting that Benzema did not participate in the World Cup due to injury. Earlier reports suggested that the French forward might leave the national team, according to AS.
A conflict arose between the player and head coach Didier Deschamps during the World Cup. The coach expressed disappointment that Benzema had not been in contact during his treatment.
Additionally, Benzema declined an invitation from President Emmanuel Macron to watch the 2022 World Cup final together, held in Qatar.
Deschamps’ current contract is set to expire on December 31, 2022. He has led the national team since July 2012.
