US Elections: What is at Stake?
Analyst Ara Arayan wrote on his Facebook page: “Today, there are congressional elections in the US. What is at stake in these elections? Firstly, let’s emphasize that the congressional elections are a prelude to the 2024 presidential elections, and the outcome of these elections is partially dependent on what happens today.
So, let’s consider a scenario where Republicans win a majority in either the House or the Senate, or both chambers at once. In this case, the Biden administration will face endless obstacles in both domestic and foreign policy until 2024.
A significant majority of American voters are primarily concerned about internal issues, with inflation currently being the biggest domestic problem, driven by rising oil prices and the excess amount of dollars released after the coronavirus pandemic.
Unlike Trump, Biden has struggled to find common ground with Saudi authorities to increase oil export volumes. After the Ukrainian war, much depends on the Saudis' actions regarding reducing dependence on Russian energy supplies.
Trump was able to negotiate with the Saudi crown prince several times, leading to a significant drop in oil prices. This was a major deal that had direct implications for our region. Saudi Arabia is a long-time adversary of Iran. Almost all Islamic countries of the coalition support Saudi Arabia in this matter. Yet, Israel is the main moderator of the anti-Iranian coalition.
Just days ago, on November 1, former Prime Minister Netanyahu, along with far-right Zionists, won the parliamentary elections in Israel, and it is expected that the government formed by these forces will be much more extreme than previous ones.
