‘The resolution of the Artsakh status issue must be given by the people of Artsakh,’ says MEP
European Parliament member Fabio Massimo Castaldo stated that he will exert all possible efforts to include amendments in the report on Armenia that will be presented in the European Parliament soon.
According to a report by Armenpress, Castaldo mentioned at a press conference that he will consider the information gathered during the fact-finding mission in Armenia as part of this process.
“The European Parliament cannot overlook the part related to the atrocities committed by Azerbaijan. I am confident that we can revise this draft and achieve our goal,” he said.
The MEP pointed out that Azerbaijan has effectively seized certain parts of the sovereign territory of Armenia.
“Regarding these attacks, the European Parliament can only issue a political message. We do not have the authority to impose sanctions; we can only appeal to the authorities and request appropriate actions, but we do not have the leverage to enforce it,” he stated.
Touching upon the issue of the status of Artsakh, the MEP emphasized that the resolution of the status of Artsakh must be provided by the people of Artsakh, and it cannot be dictated through diplomatic coercion.
