VIDEO: Why are you coming, why are you receiving salaries to provide content for your websites? Alen Simonian to the opposition
“Do you think why everyone was gathered here today to make a statement and leave, so that the button would be pressed, ensuring the entry of salaries on behalf of the deputies?” said the Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonian regarding today’s boycott by the opposition.
Simon demonstrated his criticism of the opposition for having very few legislative initiatives and for almost not participating in international visits and meetings. “...Do you think why everyone was gathered here? They made a statement and then left to press the button that ensures the salaries’ entries on behalf of the deputies. The faction could have calmly issued a statement and not come to this hall at all, but no, it was necessary to come, register, and then address the staff of the National Assembly, saying, ‘This is a political action; please consider our absences as valid and do not deduct from our salaries.’ This is our opposition today,” Simonian emphasized.
The Speaker also inquired from the opposition why they do not resign their mandates. Simonian is confident they cannot. “Resign your mandates. If you are not active here, then what are you doing here? Why are you coming here, why are you receiving salaries? Why is that money being allocated for your support to provide content for your websites? No one reads those websites anyway; aside from a small segment of your voters, no one watches the TV channels,” Simonian stressed.
Alen Simonian reiterated and emphasized that, unfortunately, the current activities of the Armenian opposition have one direction, and that direction is coordinated actions with Azerbaijani provocations. “The Armenian opposition has no other political agenda,” Simonian concluded.
