Putin Offers Political Asylum to Poroshenko in Russia
Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered to grant political asylum to Ukraine's former president Petro Poroshenko, according to kommersant.ru.
“At the time when Mr. Poroshenko was still the president of Ukraine, I told him that if he encounters any difficulties in the future, Russia is ready to provide him with political asylum. He later ridiculed this topic a lot. But today I want to reaffirm my offers, despite our serious disagreements on this issue regarding the resolution of the Donbas,” Putin said after talks with French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to the Russian president, the pursuit of Mr. Poroshenko as a “state criminal” is “an excessively large claim for the success of the current leadership.” “We are ready to provide asylum in Russia to such people as Mr. Poroshenko,” the head of state added.
