Western Unity: Price for Russia Will Be High if It Attacks Ukraine, Macron Says
French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that there is a "very strong unity" between France and Germany regarding efforts to ease tensions over the Russia-Ukraine security crisis, according to Euronews.
During a press conference, Macron also declared that "if Russia attacks Ukraine, there will be a response, and the price will be very high."
"We are simultaneously preparing a joint response and reaction in the event of an attack," he emphasized, insisting that the West is completely united and reiterating the need to reduce tensions.
Macron confirmed that he will have a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday. The Kremlin has also announced that the call will take place.
The French president mentioned that he intends to propose a "roadmap for de-escalation" in the coming days. In response to a question regarding whether Berlin would refrain from sending weapons to Ukraine, the German Chancellor replied that the country operates from a principled perspective, which, of course, "derives from the developments of the last years and decades," related to its responsibility for World War II.
