Valérie Pécresse Files Complaint Against Aliyev Over Death Threat
Valérie Pécresse, the President of the Île-de-France Regional Council and a candidate for the French presidency, has filed a complaint with law enforcement against Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev due to a death threat. She announced this in an interview with the Europe 1 radio station.
Earlier, on January 12, Aliyev had referred to Pécresse’s visit to Artsakh, stating that if they were aware of the visit in Baku, they would not have allowed Pécresse to return to France. The Azerbaijani foreign ministry also delivered a note of protest to the French acting chargé d'affaires.
"I went to Armenia because I am very concerned about the issues facing Christians in the Middle East, and it is very important to protect Armenia," said the Île-de-France leader.
A number of French National Assembly members and over 200 public figures have publicly condemned Aliyev’s statement.
