Macron Prepares to Respond to Ilham Aliyev

French President Emmanuel Macron is preparing a response to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev regarding the threats made towards French presidential candidate Valérie Pécresse after her visit to Artsakh, reports bagramyan26.

It is noteworthy that Valérie Pécresse, the president of the Île-de-France Regional Council and a candidate for the presidency, filed a complaint with the law enforcement authorities against President Aliyev due to threats of murder. She announced this during an interview with Europe 1 radio.

Previously, on January 12, the Azerbaijani president commented on Pécresse’s visit to Artsakh, stating that had they been aware of her visit in Baku, they would not have allowed her to return to France. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry handed a note of protest to the temporary chargé d'affaires of France.

“I traveled to Armenia because I am deeply concerned about the issues facing Christians in the Middle East, and it is very important to protect Armenia,” stated the head of Île-de-France.

A number of members of the French National Assembly and over 200 public figures have publicly condemned Aliyev's statement.
