When NATO and Russia Negotiations Will Take Place
NATO and Russia negotiations will take place on January 12, announced NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. This was reported by Reuters, citing an official representative of the military alliance.
“Dialogue with Russia must be built on mutually beneficial grounds, considering NATO's concerns regarding Moscow's actions, and must be conducted with regard to the opinions of NATO's European partners,” said the source.
In mid-December, Moscow proposed draft agreements to Washington and its allies, which included provisions on mutual security guarantees in Europe, a ban on deploying medium and short-range missiles in each other's accessible zones, and a commitment to halting further NATO expansion, including at the expense of former Soviet republics.
As noted by Sergey Ryabkov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, in the absence of a response, a new wave of confrontation is possible. The negotiations will take place in three stages: on January 10 in Geneva a meeting will occur at the level of representatives from the Russian Foreign Ministry, on January 12 a Russia-NATO Council meeting will be held in Brussels, and the following day, a multilateral meeting on the OSCE platform will take place in Vienna, as reported by RIA Novosti.
