Pashinyan's Stance on the Normalization Process with Turkey: Are There Preconditions?
To normalize relations without preconditions, which means that the recognition of the Genocide has never been a precondition for the normalization of relations with Turkey or the opening of borders. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during an online press conference with media and NGOs, in response to a question about the Armenian side's stance on the normalization process with Turkey and whether the Armenian side might abandon the demand for the recognition of the Genocide in this context.
“Our authorities have always reiterated the viewpoint that has been formulated since the 1990s. Armenia is ready to normalize relations with Turkey without preconditions. We are not saying that if you recognize the Genocide, relations will be normalized; if you do not recognize it, they will not be normalized,” Pashinyan noted. He emphasized that such a demand has never existed.
