Do Alen Simonian's Statements Hinder the Return of Captives? Yeghishe Kirakosyan Responds
Today, during a press conference, the representative of Armenia at the ECHR and the International Court of Justice, Yeghishe Kirakosyan, responded to the question of whether Alen Simonian's statements hinder the work of returning captives, stating: "It is clear that statements at different levels can have an impact, but in any case, we are carrying out our work."
He noted that work on the legal framework for the return of captives is ongoing and parallel efforts are being made within the ECHR framework.
It is worth mentioning that a video was shared online in which the President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, stated: "I might be saying something wrong, but I consider those captives to be already gone... Do you know who those captives are? They are the people who laid down their weapons, fled, and got lost. Don't you find it interesting that the parents of those captives are not active now because they know their children committed desertion?"
