City Hall Reveals Why Several Routes Are Not Operating in Yerevan

Dear Yerevan residents,
Today, several public transport routes have not been operating since this morning due to a driver boycott. This was announced by the spokesperson for the Mayor of Yerevan, Hakob Karapetyan, on his Facebook page.

“Drivers are demanding improved working conditions, particularly a salary increase. Currently, the city hall pays public transport drivers a net salary of around 260,000 AMD for 15 days of work (after taxes). According to our information, some drivers are also requesting a return to the previous 'planned' payment system, in which drivers received a minimum wage and 'black' income from passenger fares.

The municipal authorities are determined to reform public transport and will continue to take consistent steps to provide quality transport services to the public and operate within the framework of legality. At the same time, we are continuously improving and will continue to improve the working conditions of drivers.

This kind of sabotage is extremely unacceptable and cannot yield positive results. The relevant departments of the municipality are currently working to rectify the situation and restore the normal operation of public transport.
