Where the representative of the 'Civil Contract' did not win, the CP did: Hovik Aghazaryan
In the municipal elections held yesterday in the Surenavan community of the consolidated Ararat municipality, where Hovik Aghazaryan, a member of the National Assembly from the 'Civil Contract' faction, originates, the ruling party suffered a defeat.
“I do not see anything strange here. The reason for our defeat is that our opponents were stronger than we were. I am not making excuses, but I completed my education in the local school, entered the university, did not work in the village, and have not spent much time there. Apparently, they were well prepared for the elections in our village, and that’s why they won. In other places where I have had authority, we have won, but here we lost. In Surenavan, perhaps my authority is not that high,” Aghazaryan told NEWS.am.
According to the MP, the election results are satisfactory for him, as the ruling party won in 24 of the 36 communities. “Where the representative of the 'Civil Contract' did not win, 'Civil Contract' has won. This new political phenomenon, according to which the people are the masters of power, has been brought by our party, and we are trying to maintain it. Municipal elections differ greatly from national elections; personal connections and friendships play a significant role, and the consolidation of communities is aimed at having people vote for political forces rather than individuals,” Aghazaryan said.
