Deadlines for Obtaining Armenian Citizenship Will Be Reduced
The National Assembly has approved on first reading a draft law proposed by the government, which aims to shorten the deadline for considering applications for Armenian citizenship from six months to 90 working days.
The draft law amending the Law on Citizenship of the Republic of Armenia received 58 votes in favor and 24 abstentions during the voting session in the Parliament.
The bill also proposes to extend the deadline for individuals of Armenian descent and citizens of former Soviet republics residing permanently in Armenia to apply for recognition of Armenian citizenship until December 31, 2023.
Additionally, it is planned to grant individuals with adult children who are citizens of Armenia the right to acquire Armenian citizenship without the requirement of having resided in Armenia permanently for three years or proving proficiency in the Armenian language.
