Vagharshak Harutyunyan Seeks New Position

After the defeat in the 44-day war, Vagharshak Harutyunyan was appointed as Armenia's Minister of Defense, a position he held for exactly eight months. It is worth noting that he was previously disgracefully dismissed from the system and even degraded in rank. However, Nikol Pashinyan reinstated his rank, despite many in the army believing—and still believing—that the 2002 decision was undoubtedly correct.

According to reports from the newspaper 'Pats,' Nikol Pashinyan is now considering giving him a new position. One of the options being discussed is to place him within the CSTO, which Armenia recently took over the presidency of. However, according to our sources, Harutyunyan is looking to secure the role of Armenia's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Russia. Both Armenian and Russian diplomatic establishments are aware of his 'ambition,' and this prospect has sparked not only bewilderment but also serious resentment.

According to our information, on one hand, the diplomatic corps is confident that Vardan Toghanyan is performing his duties professionally, while on the other hand, despite Harutyunyan's efforts to present himself as accepted by the Russian political and military elite, there are significant reservations regarding him. Therefore, as our sources in Armenia's foreign ministry have conveyed, if Pashinyan decides to replace Toghanyan with someone who has consistently failed even in 'his' field, it could cause serious bewilderment both in the Armenian diplomatic corps and in Russia.
