ECHR Accepted Azerbaijan's Proposal to Rename Saint Ghazanchetsots to 'Ghazanchi'
As previously reported, during the plenary session of the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), a discussion was held on the topic of 'The Humanitarian Consequences of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Conflict.' A resolution on the same topic was also presented for discussion.
The resolution was based on the report by PACE rapporteur on migration, refugees, and internally displaced persons, Paul Gavan. The Azerbaijani delegation proposed to rename the Saint Ghazanchetsots Church as Ghazanchetsots/Ghazanchi.
The Armenian delegation opposed this proposal, stating that the church was built by Armenians for Armenians. However, the proposal was accepted by the majority of PACE, with a vote count of 80 in favor, 18 against, and 3 abstentions.
