Syunik Under 'Terror' by Local Law Enforcement: Yerem Sargsyan

Attorney Yerem Sargsyan wrote on his Facebook page: "Syunik is being subjected to 'terror' by local law enforcement. The head of the Kinar community was arrested by the Investigative Committee and subsequently detained for not giving testimony against the mayor of Goris. Nonetheless, the Investigative Committee is doing everything to detain the mayor of Goris.

The mayor of Kajaran has been arrested and is being detained by the NSS. For the mayor of Meghri, the main division of criminal police traveled to Meghri and, using police methods—including assaulting one of the citizens as per a public request—was trying to find some criminal offense against the mayor of Meghri.

Later, an investigator from the Investigative Committee went to Syunik, and the police began taking citizens to the investigator without notice to quickly interrogate them and obtain some testimony against the mayor of Meghri. Everything is being done to create grounds for detention.

Of course, as the prosecutor's office always claims, these are purely legal processes, there is nothing political involved, and there is certainly no order to isolate these mayors. It is just a coincidence that all law enforcement agencies simultaneously decided to raid Syunik. Just see to whom it should be handed over..."
