Political Consultations Held Between Armenia and Switzerland's Foreign Ministries

Political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation were held remotely on April 28. The Armenian delegation was led by Tigran Samvelyan, Head of the Europe Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, while the Swiss side was headed by Anna Iffkovits, the Head of the Eurasia Division of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

According to the press release from the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Information and Public Diplomacy Department, the participants highly appreciated the political relations established between the two countries and discussed a wide range of issues on the Armenian-Swiss bilateral agenda. They also addressed economic ties, outlining steps to strengthen and expand them.

The parties discussed the activities carried out in Armenia by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and addressed matters related to the development of the next cooperation strategy for 2022-2025.

Furthermore, the interlocutors reviewed the prospects for cooperation and mutual support within international organizations. The Armenian MFA also reported that during the consultations, opinions were exchanged on several issues of mutual interest on the international agenda. The parties became familiar with each other’s positions on regional issues.

Special attention was paid to the resolution of issues concerning Artsakh in the post-war situation and humanitarian assistance. In this context, the importance of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship format was emphasized for resolving the conflict, including the final status issue. Particular attention was given to issues that urgently require addressing, such as prisoners of war and humanitarian assistance.
