President Accepts Government Resignation
The President of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, has signed a decree accepting the resignation of the Government.
"Based on Article 130 of the Constitution. Accept the resignation of the Government," the decree states.
It is important to note that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made a statement today announcing his resignation from the position of Prime Minister.
According to the current Constitution of Armenia, after the resignation of the Prime Minister and acceptance of the Government's resignation, political factions in the National Assembly have the right to propose candidates for Prime Minister within a seven-day period. The National Assembly elects the Prime Minister by a majority of votes from the total number of deputies.
If a new Prime Minister is not elected within seven days after the vote, a new election for Prime Minister is held, with candidates proposed by at least one-third of the total number of deputies. If a Prime Minister is not elected by a majority of votes from the total number of deputies, the National Assembly is dissolved by law.
