‘If the US wants to worsen relations, the decision is theirs’: Cavusoglu to Biden ahead of April 24
The Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated that the official recognition of the mass killings of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire as Genocide by US President Joe Biden would further damage the already strained relations among NATO allies, according to Reuters.
In an interview with Haberturk, responding to a question about whether Biden intends to recognize the Armenian killings in the Ottoman Empire as Genocide, Çavuşoğlu said the United States 'should respect international law.'
'Declarations that lack legal force will bring no benefit, they will harm relations. If the United States wants to worsen relations, the decision is theirs,' Çavuşoğlu asserted, referring to reports that the US president is preparing to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
