VIDEO: Adam Schiff on Armenian Prisoners of War
Subjecting Armenian prisoners of war to torture is a gross violation of international law and the Geneva Conventions. This was stated by U.S. Congressman Adam Schiff, who recently introduced a resolution calling for the immediate release of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held in Azerbaijan, as reported by Voice of America.
“The evidence gathered by organizations dealing with human rights violations indicates that the Azerbaijani armed forces have subjected Armenian prisoners of war and civilians to violence. 200 prisoners of war are illegally being held in Azerbaijan, and the likelihood of further violence increases with every moment the detention continues, exacerbating the suffering of Armenian prisoners of war,” he said.
Adam Schiff's resolution demands that the U.S. administration employ all possible efforts for the release of the prisoners and also calls for enhancing efforts within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group to resolve the situation.
