«No Movement»: Lawyer on Criminal Case of Armenian Who Killed Azerbaijani
Lawyer Garik Galikyan wrote on his Facebook page, "It has been 10 days since our compatriot Arman Arakelyan was transferred to Armenia and is currently in the RA Ministry of Justice's 'Nubarashen' Penitentiary. According to the law, Arman Arakelyan's sentence must be aligned with Armenian legislation, and before the case is handed over to the court, the verdict must be translated for compliance. However, during these 10 days, we have not seen any progress.
I have sent several inquiries and letters to the relevant authorities. I will issue a statement regarding Arman Arakelyan's case by the end of the week, where I will provide detailed information on our actions and somewhat on our expectations.
We thank all those who support Arman.
It is reminded that Arman Arakelyan, of Armenian descent, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for killing an Azerbaijani during a dispute at one of the Armenian restaurants in Russia. He was transferred to Armenia on March 14 to serve his sentence in his home country.
