Australia to Build Roads from Medical Masks

Australian scientists have developed a new road construction material made from medical masks and construction waste, specifically recycled concrete. This is reported by Fast Company.

Every day, approximately 6.8 billion medical masks are discarded worldwide. It takes about 3 million masks to build one kilometer of a two-lane road. The project description mentions that this approach will prevent around 93 tons of waste from ending up in landfills.

The construction material has been created by researchers at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. The use of this mixture is expected to reduce construction costs by 30 percent.
